Insights into the work of being a critic in a major theatre town
Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune talked to John, Dave and Marcia about what life is like as a theatre critic and how he views his responsibilities as a reviewer. We also talked about the value of community theatre and other amateur-to-semi-professional groups to cultural life and to building an appreciation of the arts. Chris recently wrote an article about two plays dealing with the issue of violence in Chicago, specifically gang violence, and we expanded a bit on the value of dealing with social issues in the theatre, particularly in light of the recent tragedy in Colorado. All this plus some additional insights into the Chicago and New York theatre scenes make for a lively and enlightening conversation.
