When I watch amateur theatre — remembering that “amateur” is derived from the Latin word, “amator”, which means ‘to love’ — I am often caught up in the sheer pleasure actors and crew take in sharing their work with an audience.

Here’s a great article on one of the most important skills an actor must develop: listening.

Newbies often forget it’s not all about knowing your lines and knowing the sequence. Good actors learn to listen and react when being spoken TO on stage. Also, listening is critical to helping fellow actors out of problems when lines are dropped or something else goes wrong.
