Actress (and Marcia’s daughter) Deirdre Lovejoy joins us at the Bristol Opera House, Bristol, Indiana for a special series of three podcasts in front of a live audience of fellow Theatre Geeks. In addition to catching up on Dede’s stage and screen activities, emcee Kevin Egelsky leads us through our radio gameshow, “I Know! I Know!” Join the fun and see if you can guess the answers before we do!

Theatre Geeks Live Podcast coming January 14!

Join us to celebrate the start of our third year on the internet!

We’ll be recording three special episodes of Theatre Geeks LIVE at the Bristol Opera House, for the benefit of Elkhart Civic Theatre. In addition to our usual brand of convsersation, we’ll be playing “I Know! I Know!”, our own theatre quiz gameshow, with quizmaster Rick Ellis and emcee Mark Potuck keeping us honest and moving things along. And YOU can play too — it’ll be a whole lotta fun, with PRIZES for lucky audience members as well!

Join us at the Bristol Opera House, January 14, 2012 for Brunch at 10:00 am, with the show starting at 10:30. Admission will be $10, all to benefit Elkhart Civic Theatre. ANYone is welcome, so if you’re a regular listener to Theatre Geeks, we’d love to meet you at our home theatre.

To reserve a seat for “I know! I know!,” call the Bristol Opera House weekday afternoons at 574-848-4118. Reservations can be made starting Monday, December 26.

We made Alltop!

Now, here’s what that means.

Theatre Geeks is now featured on the theatre page of Alltop, a highly rated aggregator of quality web content. Apparently, our podcast was interesting enough for the Alltop folks to put us on their arts/theatre page. Check it out here.

Here’s some additional info about Alltop from their statement of purpose:

The purpose of Alltop is to help you answer the question, “What’s happening?” in “all the topics” that interest you. You may wonder how Alltop is different from a search engine. A search engine is good to answer a question like, “How many people live in China?” However, it has a much harder time answering the question, “What’s happening in China?” That’s the kind of question that we answer.

We do this by collecting the headlines of the latest stories from the best sites and blogs that cover a topic. We group these collections — “aggregations” — into individual web pages. Then we display the five most recent headlines of the information sources as well as their first paragraph. Our topics run from adoption to zoologywith photography, food, science, religion, celebrities, fashion, gaming, sports, politics, automobiles, Macintosh, and hundreds of other subjects along the way.

You can think of Alltop as the “online magazine rack” of the web. We’ve subscribed to thousands of sources to provide “aggregation without aggravation.” To be clear, Alltop pages are starting points—they are not destinations per se. Ultimately, our goal is to enhance your online reading by displaying stories from sources that you’re already visiting plus helping you discover sources that you didn’t know existed.

Being on Alltop is not recognition or a “prize,” although we’re glad to get it. But what it really means is that our show will be introduced to a much larger potential audience.

HTML 5 and PowerPress 2.0 make Theatre Geeks iPad compatible

Until now, iPad users have been unable to listen to Theatre Geeks at the website. The little player that we were using as part of the BluBrry plugin only offered a Flash-based player, and the iPad does not support Flash. But the latest version of BluBrry PowerPress provides for an HTML 5 based player which is iPad-friendly.

Let us know if you have any problems with the player.

26: Youth and Children’s Theatre

Youth theatre and children’s theatre represent great opportunities for community theatres to grow their audiences and train the next generation of players at the same time. This week, in the second of three episodes from Elkhart’s Daily Grind, the Geeks, along with guest panelist Rick Ellis, discuss some of the joys and pitfalls of youth and children’s theatre programs. On hand is theatre mom and fund-raising professional Kristin Schwerha-Scott and Penny Meyers, an Elkhart Civic Theatre member with long experience working with that troupe’s youth program.

Throw in great coffee from the Grind and you’ve got yourself a show!
